Job Summary

Eastern Washington University Libraries seeks a dynamic and energetic Collection Maintenance Librarian. This position is a 11-month, full-time tenure-track library faculty appointment (working over 12 months) to perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, service and scholarship. The Collection Maintenance Librarian will promote a positive work environment, communicate effectively, and collaborate with library colleagues in identifying ways to promote library goals and initiatives.

The Collection Maintenance Librarian is responsible for coordinating collections maintenance and acquisitions activities in the Collection Services unit, including management of materials processing, creation and maintenance of policies and procedures, maintenance of the shared Integrated Library System (Ex Libris’ Alma), and contribution to the management of the electronic resources lifecycle.

This position works closely with the Collection Management Librarian and as part of the Collection Services team in an environment where acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resources, and discovery management activities are integrated. Position coordinates implementation of collection decisions, such as acquisition, processing, maintenance, and promotion of physical and electronic resources; provides leadership and coordination of Collection Services staff; coordinates collection maintenance activities; collaborates on budget monitoring; oversees gathering of statistics and report creation; and communicates with internal and external stakeholders.

The candidate should also be comfortable working with diverse groups and promoting cultural competency.

Key responsibility areas include:

• Coordinates collections maintenance and acquisitions activities for materials in all formats, including physical and electronic, and for all collection areas, including government documents
• Coordinates acquisition, processing, maintenance, and promotion of physical and electronic resources
• Provides strategic leadership and coordinates the day-to-day activities of classified staff
• Trains and evaluates staff on a regular and as-needed basis
• Coordinates policies and procedures associated with ordering, receiving/activation, payment, and license management activities
• Communicates with external providers, including publishers, vendors, content providers, consortia, and technology suppliers, via telephone, email, and in-person
• Works as part of the Collection Services team to integrate library resources in all formats into library discovery systems
• Using a strategic approach, oversees statistics collection, extraction and organization of data, and creates reports for collection resources for a variety of purposes and stakeholders, in coordination with the Collection Management Librarian
• Assists Collection Management Librarian and the Libraries’ Budget Manager to allocate, manage, monitor, and analyze library allocations and funds in areas of collection development
• Coordinates collection maintenance activities including bindery and other physical collection maintenance, in collaboration with other library units and staff, such as Access Services
• Works with library personnel to troubleshoot electronic resource access problems
• Participates in library committees, governance, and working groups

• Participates in library faculty governance.
• Participates in university-wide shared governance and serves on university committees.

Conditions of Employment

This is a full time position that works 11 months spread over 12 months. Salary is evenly distributed across all 12 months.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must provide evidence in their application materials that they meet the qualifications as described below.

• Holds a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
• Meets qualifications for an Assistant Professor Librarian position and has the ability to meet tenure requirements as defined in Library Faculty Policies & Procedures, Part VII of the EWU Library Plan, available at http://www.ewu.edu/Library/About-Us/Library-Policies.xml or http://www.ewu.edu/Documents/Library/TheLibraryPlan%202000-2005.pdf
• Minimum 2-3 years’ professional experience working in a complex library environment that focuses on discovery and delivery of online and tangible resources
• Minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory experience
• Familiarity with academic library concepts related to collection management and development, and the lifecycle of electronic resources.
• Knowledge of collection budgets, funding models, and electronic resource licensing
• Knowledge of new and emerging models of acquiring, collecting, disseminating, and providing access to scholarly information
• Adeptness at working in a technological and rapidly changing academic library environment
• Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication, organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and planning skills
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and collaborate effectively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and clients
• Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to serving diverse populations
• Strong commitment to student academic success

Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active participation in professional dialogue and contribution to academic librarianship, through participation in professional associations, publication, etc.
• Demonstrated initiative in investigating new ideas and implementing change in collection development and management.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in another subject specialty.
