Job Summary

Eastern Washington University Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, academic year, Lecturer in the Department of Psychology who will be assigned to the graduate Counselor Education program to begin September 2018. This position is eligible for annual renewal.

The EWU Counselor Education program as has offered a Master’s of Science degree since 1986. Our program has been accredited by CACREP since 1986.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a variety of graduate courses to fulfill the needs of the Program and Department, including Career Counseling, Research Methods, Assessment, Development Across the Lifespan.
  • Engaging in effective teaching and assessment of student learning
  • Supervising students engaged in internship.
  • Participating in Department meetings and collaborating with colleagues to fulfill the missions of the Department

The typical teaching load is 45 credits per year, spread over three quarters, mid-September through mid-June. The candidate is not required to serve on committees.

Position is based on the Cheney campus, and includes in-classroom teaching as part of its position responsibilities. As a result, this position will not be filled with a candidate who seeks an on-line only, remote teaching position.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling
  • Certified school counselor OR LMHC/LHMC eligible in Washington
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student internships
  • Ability to teach a variety of core courses and specialty areas within counselor education (such as Research Methods, Assessment, Career Counseling, Diversity, Development across the lifespan, and others in area of expertise), as demonstrated by coursework, prior teaching experience, research, and/or publications/presentations.
  • Mastery of basic computer skills including word processing, database, email, and other forms of instruction technology.
  • A high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity, social justice and experiential and community-based education.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who also offer one or more of the following:

  • Doctorate in Counselor Education or related field
  • At least one-year experience teaching university or college level psychology courses.
  • Commitment to quality teaching, to students, and an active research program that involves undergraduates.

Responsibility / Duty

A workload plan will be developed and included as part of the faculty contract. Teaching normally will comprise 100% of the workload, 45 credits in a 3-quarter year.

Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:

  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
