Job Summary

Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for a Data & Prospect Research Coordinator. This position provides oversight of the database related applications (Reeher) by ensuring data integrity and providing leadership on the effective use of the software to others in the department. This position manages Reeher which is a dashboard application with strong predictive modeling. The Data & Prospect Research Coordinator is responsible for donor and prospect research and assisting in prospect management. This position will work directly with the Development Officers to ensure effective management of donor data.

Required Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in prospect research, prospect management, or data analysis, ideally in a mission-driven, philanthropically supported non-profit or higher education.
  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Advanced experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) to include data query, extraction, importing, formatting and understanding schemas.
  • Analyze data to make accurate projections using business mathematics and statistical techniques;
  • Work independently with little or no supervision or collaboratively as a member of a team as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using specialized data sources such as iWave PRO, WealthEngine, and LexisNexis relevant to fundraising.
  • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize high volume of information and problem-solving
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with information resources and publications, including fundraising databases and online services highly preferred.
  • Experience with Millennium, Reeher or customer relationship management software
  • Experience with subscription based online research tools
  • Ability to program in SQL, PHP, XML, VB4, or other industry-standard languages

Data Analysis and Reporting
• Responsible for maintaining, analysis and implementation of the results of Reeher, wealth screening, and ratings, including organizing prospect assignments.
• Provide prospect identification and portfolio development for campaign initiatives utilizing information from various sources including Millennium, Reeher, wealth screening, Lexis-Nexis, social media and others.
• Synthesize information and disseminate results through written reports, maps, charts, graphs, presentations, and other media for varied audiences using Millennium and other databases and platforms.
• Respond to urgent or time-sensitive requests with high quality analyses and reports.
• Organizes periodic prospect screening efforts such as those conducted with volunteers.
• Assist the Director of Advancement Services in the development of prospect management policies and procedures; develop and provide prospect/portfolio trainings to fundraisers.
• Develop reporting from Millennium and other databases and platforms to prepare materials on prospects and fundraising initiatives, as well as fundraisers’ internal performance/progress reports.
• Work in conjunction with Advancement Services staff to effectively integrate multiple databases and build capacity and integrity of the Millennium system.
• Facilitate data and information management; data mining and analytics; and constituent, trend, and performance reporting functions.

Prospect Research
• Assist fundraisers with linking donors’ areas of philanthropic interest to potential avenues for engagement, as well as identify links between donor, volunteer and prospect networks.
• Conduct in-depth prospect research and interpret and synthesize large volumes of complex financial and biographic data into profiles that inform the strategic development of potential donors.
• Utilize advanced tools and databases, internet resources, in-house data, and other resources to enhance and supplement constituent data in large volume.
• Analyze and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations.
• Interpret and synthesize large volumes of data and complex financial, legal and technical language into easily comprehensible information.
• Create narrative reports and develop tables, charts, and illustrations.
• Proactively identify potential donors, classify prospects according to interest, university affinity, and financial giving capacity for follow-up by fundraisers.
• Responsible for updating Millennium donor/alumni database constituent records regularly with information obtained through research. Maintain prominent alumni list.
• Evaluate research tools and emerging technologies and keep abreast of trends in the field of prospect research.

Prospect Management
• Train users in the proper use of the database to increase effectiveness of the department (Reeher and Millennium).
• Responsible for data entry updating and reporting in the proper areas of Millennium. Develop and provide training in Reeher application.
• Actively participate in portfolio reviews and development, as well as strategy meetings with fundraisers and senior managers and assist in developing cultivation, solicitation and overall fundraising strategies.
• Provide on-going prospect and portfolio analysis. Build, evaluate, maintain, and rate prospect portfolios for campaigns, major gifts, planned gifts, and upper-end annual gifts.
• Develop strategies for identifying new/overlooked prospects for mid-level and major giving.
• Manage and support regular review of moves management and create systems for accountability for all fundraising activity, including the generation and distribution of standard reports.

• Train frontline fundraisers, and other colleagues, and provide templates to support independent efforts to conduct research or gather information from prospects and donors.

• Assist Information Technical Specialist and Data Specialist with maintaining & upgrading documents for Millennium policies and procedures.
